Clinical Hypnosis is often used in conjunction with traditional forms of medical treatment. Hypnosis has been used in the field of medicine and psychology for hundreds of years and continues to be an effective therapy. There is nothing mystical or magical about how Clinical Hypnosis works; the process is neurochemical and neurophysical.
Everyone has heard of the ‘fight, flight or freeze’ state of emergency. There are, however, many other brain states or frequencies that we use each day that are less about emergency and more about daily brain-body function and dysfunction. The hypnotic state is one of these frequencies.
If you think about it, the brain never really sleeps, or your body would shut down. Sleep then, is just an altered state of being awake. The hypnotic state is on the spectrum between being awake and being fully asleep, for that reason, people say that it feels like an enjoyable day-dream.
While in a state of hypnosis, different brain organs/glands can be stimulated for body response. For example, in a case study that I did with a Medical Allergist, we were able to reduce the blood-histamine response of an allergic reaction in those people tested. A weekly pre-testing period was implemented for 2-months prior to any treatment. Part of the testing included blood tests and scratch tests, to insure that an allergy to ragweed, pollen and mold actually existed. After a 1/2 hour session of hypnosis, each day for 4 days, no more care was administered. Months after the intervention, blood testing revealed only a minimal histamine response when the people were again exposed to ragweed, pollen and mold. They also did not suffer with any of the typical allergy symptoms, like watery eyes, stuffiness, itching, sneezing and body aches.
Most people would be surprised to learn that their brain can control and resolve an allergic response!
As a Chiropractor, my interest is in how the brain affects the physical body and how to influence and change any dysfunction.
Hypnosis is a great therapy with many clinical applications. Please call my clinic with any questions that you may have about hypnosis therapy, and if you may be a candidate for care.
