What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is model of care that has been used around the world for thousands of years. Before dissection allowed science to understand what a nerve is and does, acupuncturists described pathways of body energy as meridians. By inserting fine wires in points along the pathways, pain could be reduced and illness improved.
Putting aside the theories of meridians, yin and yang, and the earth elements, acupuncture is either a stimulation or sedation of a nerve process by using body chemicals to tell the brain that an invader is present. The brain continues to respond as long as the invader is present. When the wire is removed the brain stops responding because the threat is gone.
What would I use Acupuncture for?
Many conditions are treated using acupuncture. I will often recommend using acupuncture in conjunction with chiropractic for chronic and difficult headaches, acute injuries with swelling and and even shingles.
If you are curious if your condition may respond to acupuncture please ask.
